Terry Abrams is an experienced teacher and photographer, with a BFA degree in photography from The Maryland Institute, College of Art and a Master of Education from Boston University. He has studied with the photographers Paul Caponigro, Arnold Newman, John Sexton, Michael Kenna and John Paul Caponigro, and considers them to be strong influences in his work. Terry spent thirteen years in Europe traveling, teaching photography and making photographs, and since 1990, has taught full-time at Washtenaw Community College and part-time at The University of Michigan and The Maine Photographic Workshops. Terry has made a transition in his materials and processes over the past 10 years from medium and large format black and white darkroom photography to digital capture, computer processing and inkjet printing. When he is not teaching, Terry exhibits his photographs in galleries and art shows, and they appear in numerous books on photography. He recently helped write digital imaging chapters of Photography, 8th ed, by London and Upton and Introduction to Digital Photography, by Joe Ciaglia. In 2005, Terry was awarded a Fulbright-Hayesgrant to study and make photographs in Morocco and southern Spain.
