Carl R Sams II is a professional wildlife photographer from Milford, Michigan. Carl works with Jean Stoick; their images have appeared in hundreds of national and international publications. Honored recipients of the People's Choice Award for the best of show 11 times at major wildlife exhibits, Carl and Jean were also the first photographers ever to be honored as featured artists at a major wildlife art event. Since they began photographing in 1982 they have taken more than 60,000 photographs of a particular white-tailed deer family. Carl and Jean's first book, "Images of the Wild," is a collection of many of their favorite images and some of their stories. Carl R. Sams II and his wife, Jean Stoick, have gathered photographs through 20 years of exploring some of North America's special places. "Images of the Wild" allows readers to share in the intimate relationships that they have built with many of their wildlife subjects. A limited number of autographed copies of "Images of the Wild" are available through their studio. Many of the photographs featured in the book are available as prints in this site's Gallery. New York Times #1 best-seller, "Stranger in the Woods," the photographers' first children's book, was released in the fall of 1999. This delightful book uses the couple's photographs to tell the story of resident birds and deer reacting to a snowman that appears in the winter woods. Be sure to visit Carl and Jean's Stranger in the Woods web site to find out more about it.
